Rules
You are here: Home > Rules
It's very important that everybody adheres the specified rules to make EuroSlam a success. If rules aren't followed, players in case will be dismissed from the league, and future leagues.
All above means that a player must finish his participation in the league, even when the championship is out of range. Players who don't respond to our warnings will automatically be replaced by players on the waiting list!
Miscelaneous Rules
Code of realism
We maintain a realism code to simulate an IN REAL LIFE game of NBA basketball. This means that it's not allowed to abuse the games' AI. Do not use just one player to score all the time, game after game. Do not try to take charges at each transition. Play fair! Play ball... like Dirt-Fly tells you to, if you know what I mean!
Pausing to change your settings
The hosting player presses 'Esc' at the start of the game to pause it right after the flip (jump ball). This allows both players to adjust their video settings if needed.
Jump ball
Everybody jumps at the 2nd flip. This is fair so both players will be ready for the jump.
Full court pressing
Using a full court press to defend the in-bounder is only allowed when your team is not leading by more than 10 points! Don't use a full court press all the game, think of your sportsmanship and the code of realism.
Stealing the inbound pass
A direct steal of the inbound pass is NOT allowed! Stealing the inbound pass is only allowed when the opponent makes the pass from the baseline to the other (offensive) side of the court.
Charges
Taking charges is only allowed in your own defensive 3 point area. All balls must be returned when a charge is taken anywhere else on the court!
Spinning
Because players in real life don’t spin more than once in a one on one situation we have decided to disallow it in EuroSlam as well.
Spinning more than one time to score is not allowed.
Yes:
Crossover + spin
Crossover + crossover + spin
No:
Spin + crossover + spin
Players that spin more than once with the same must always be reported. They will receive one warning before dismissed!
Intentional fouls
Since lag is back while hitting free throws we decided that intentional fouls are only allowed in the last minute of a game when the score is close.
Requirements
- Broadband Internet (Cable, ADSL or faster)
- Serie A: Live in Europe
- Italian League: Live in Italy
- Estonian league: Live in Estland
- Original EASports NBA Live 2008 CDROM
- Plenty of motivation to play all your games (3 per week)
Games
Each player MUST play about 3 to 4 games a week. You are not allowed to play any games if the difference between you and the GM with the lowest amount of games played exceeds 10 games.
Exceptions can ONLY be requested through a leagues’ commissioner.
Exceeding these margins will result in warnings, fines and eventually replacements of players involved!
A player can only play the same team twice (ones away, ones home).
Submitting results
The winner is required to save and submit the stats for both teams after a game has come to an end.
- Login at EuroSlam.com;
- Click SUBMIT STATS in the left menu;
- Select the away team;
- Select the stats file for the away team from your NBA Live saves directory, usually in your "My Documents" folder;
- Repeat step 3 and 4 for the home team;
- Write a game recap; (See also: Contribution...)
- Click the SUBMIT button.
Opponent Rating
The winner leaves his opponent rating at the SUBMIT STATS page, while the loose can leave his opponent rating and losers’ recap at the GAMES page after logging in at EuroSlam. Click “rate” next to a played game.
Contribution
All players MUST contribute to EuroSlam by writing recaps (just a couple of lines will be fine) and news items. Please, try your best, just "GG" will not be accepted! We will start to keep track of the contribution of content. When a player does not provide enough content he will be warned, fined and eventually dismissed from the league. Please use a spell checker before submitting content.
Connecting with opponents
EuroSlam uses ICQ as it’s official messaging program. Opponents can communicate by ICQ to set game date/time. No other type of messaging software is used, although we are considering using Skype phone software next to ICQ.
Performance tips
Because EASports downgraded online game play quite a bit for NBA Live 2005 it's necessary to prevent lag as much as possible.
- Close all background programs while playing. (Including ICQ or other messaging software.)
- Lower your settings. (Detail and resolution, this is very important!)
- Make sure the host computer is the fastest one of both the systems. (Of course both players have the right to host their home game!)
